Its about a man who one night had a dream. "He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened in the very lowest and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, You said that once I declared to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed You most You would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love You and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
Its such a beautiful story to me, because so many times I've kind of felt the same as that man, but the Lord has never failed to show me, that in my hardest times, when it seems I'm all alone, it's when He's the closes and He's carrying me!
As I was walking along the beach, I started to sing, "When I saw just two footprints upon the sandy beach, it was then that my Saviour carried me.....". I sang that a couple times, then started adding verses. To my disappointment I can't hardly remember all the words I said! But while I was singing I was inspired to write a poem that would be a song, (hopefully a song one day) about when I see just two footprints in the "sand!" I got really excited, and told the Lord about it, and asked Him to please give me the words!!
This was on a Wednesday, September 8th. I didn't write anything right away, just kept thinking about it. Sabbath morning my mom, sister and I road our bikes to the beach. I had my morning devotions there and saw the beautiful sunrise! It was a picture I'll never forget. I was able to take the picture that you see. The footprints, the water and the light from the sunrise. To which I was very excited about!
After my devotions I wanted to get another picture but with a sea bird in it. Before going to the edge of the water I prayed and made a little request, asking God to please send a bird to be in my picture at the right time. I honestly couldn't see how it could happen, but I trusted Him. I made the footprints, and praise God, a bird was right close to where I was. I was able to get it in my picture. I put it on here, as-well, to show you that God even cares and answers the smallest of prayers!
Nine days later I penned these words of a poem with Jesus' help that you will now read.
I Saw Just Two Footprints.
When it seems I just don't understand
I'll turn to my Saviour who loves me
I surrender to Him and He takes my hand
He'll lead me and give me victory.
When I saw just two footprints on the sand
It was then that my Lord carried me
I needn't worry, for He has taken my hand
He'll carry me through and make my heart free!
This life is hard, a high hill to clime
I long to see my beloved Jesus' face
Struggles and trials refine, it's Gods design
And one day soon I'll come out pure by His grace.
Sometimes my Lord let's me stand on my feet
That I may learn a great lesson true
To make me pure, to know His love sweet
He only let's trials come to make me new.
But most times my Saviour carries me
So when I see only two footprints on the sand
I'm assured He's near and my heart He'll give victory
And He'll lead me through holding my hand.

So friends, when you feel you're all alone, know that Christ is by your side, He will carry you through!!
