The Giant Anteater

The Anteater lives in Central and South America. The length of the head and body is 3-4 ft. and the tail another 2-3ft. The hair is coarse and stiff, gray-brown color on head and body, becoming darker on the hind-quarters and tail. Across the shoulders are black stripes bordered with white, which makes the Anteater surprisingly very camouflage.
The Anteater is found in swamps, open forests and savannahs from British Honduras and Guatemala to northern Argentina. It lives on the ground shuffling around with nose to the ground in an almost continual search for food. The Anteater doesn’t have a permanent resting place, but it sleeps curled up with head between the forelegs and tail wrapped round the body in any sheltered place.
Amazingly it walks on the knuckles of its front feet, giving it a strange crippled look, in doing so to protect the long, sickle-shaped claws from being blunted.
The Anteater’s diet consist of termites, ants and soft-bodied grubs. With its short front claws it tears holes in the tough walls of termite nests. With its long muzzle pushing in, the 8-10inch tongue probes around in the nest to get the insects with its sticky saliva. Another interesting thing about the Giant Anteater is, that their smell is 40 times better then ours.
After a few minutes of thought, I came up with some spiritual lessons we can learn from the Anteater that I would like to share with you.
Like the Giant Anteater is almost continually searching for food, we are to continually be searching the Scriptures and ever be open to what God would like to teach us and where He would have us go. Like the Anteater has no permanent dwelling place, we need to remember that this world is not our permanent home, that we’re just pilgrims traveling to a Heavenly Home! Like the Anteater tears into nests with its strong claws to get the ants, we are to brake down the walls of sin with, “Thus sayeth the Lord” to get our reward-victory in Jesus and eternal life! Just like the ants of the ant hills are in danger of a Giant Anteater coming and tearing up their home and eating them up, we must be on our guard continually, for there is a foe out there prying around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour! So stand guard against the evil one, and rest in the safety of the Rock, Jesus Christ!
